We are excited to share a new resource that is available on our trucks!
One of our team members created these sensory support bags designed to help patients that may need addl. support. This bags are called “Joseph’s Sensory Bags” in honor of our chief's son Joseph who is autistic.
These bags are intended for patients of all ages who may be experiencing anxiety, overstimulation, communication difficulties, or simply need something to help them feel more comfortable during transport or while receiving care.
Some EMS agencies in the US have implemented sensory bags and responders have found them extremely helpful!
This will provide our crews with another tool to help make these patient interactions just a little more comfortable. A big thank you to Angela Bardino for spearheading this project!

We had the opportunity to attend Burlington’s MCI drill on Saturday August 29th, which focused on a school bus accident scenario utilizing heavy wrecker equipment (Rotator). With over 40 volunteers from Burlington Fire and EMS, Harwinton Fire, Canton EMS, Harwinton Westside Fire, Winsted EMS, Harwinton Ambulance, and Farmington Motor Sports came together for this training.
The drill included multiple evolutions utilizing 20+ simulated victims from Harwinton and Burlington Boy Scout Troops and area paramedic classes. We were also supported by State/Region resources for Mass Communication and Mass Casualty.
This was a great opportunity to practice triage, communication, patient care, and teamwork during a mass casualty incident and stay prepared for the real thing.
